Youth Homelessness Matters Day (http://yfoundations.org.au/act/campaigns/youth-homelessness-matters-day-campaign/ is an event held across NSW. This event’s purpose is to raise awareness of Youth Homelessness. Platform Youth Services is a not for profit community based regional agency that provides holistic and integrated services to vulnerable young people, their families and communities.
They work from a social justice approach to ensure vulnerable young people have opportunities, skills and support to actively participate in social, economic and community life. They advocate to, and work in partnership with young people, their families, communities and other agencies to ensure excellent outcomes.
Historically Platform have held community BBQs, and been involved in a variety of Youth Festivals within the Blue Mountains, Penrith and Hawkesbury areas to create and build community awareness of Youth Homelessness and the issues faced by those at risk of homelessness.
This year, they have decided to do something a little different, something exciting. They want to reach out to those in the community who want to make change, which employ and offer opportunities and who are dedicated to the youth of tomorrow.
By raising the profile of these issues to the business and corporate sector with our region, Platform hope to build strong relationships that can create opportunities. Platform Youth Services (www.platformys.org.au ) in collaboration with Richmond Regent Theatre, will be screening the 2009 Australian movie “Blessed”.
“During 24 hours, seven children wander the streets in an urban odyssey. Dawn breaks, and it’s the same day but now we experience the viewpoint of the five mothers. Blessed is a film about mothers and children, about love and beauty, about being lost and finding your way home.”
We hope to see you there!
