Girls After School Program

NCNS is running an after-school Girls Group, for primary school girls (in year 3-6) attending Braddock Public School in Cranebrook. We are currently at maximum capacity with 11 girls registered to attend.

Girl’s only programs are important, as girls and boys have different needs and interests. These girl’s only groups can help girls to feel more comfortable to discuss certain topics that they may be embarrassed to talk about in front of their male peers.

The purpose of beginning this group was to create a safe space for girls to support each other and establish long lasting friendships.  Within the group we aim to provide leadership skills, anti-bullying, self-esteem building, life skills and community engagement activities. By giving the girls opportunities to express themselves, we encourage the development of a strong sense of self, building their resilience and confidence.

This program includes fun activities, arts & crafts, recreational and community activities. This group is in its infancy, having been only run for 3 weeks. During this time, the girls have undertaken various art activities and learnt to cook breakfast for Mother’s Day. The girls are excited for a movie afternoon coming up.

We are currently working with the girls within the group to determine activities they might like to do in the future.
